Below the Belt

Supporting Groundbreaking Research to Fight Gynecologic Cancer

Below the Belt NC was founded in 2010 in honor of dear loved ones, who have courageously fought gynecologic cancers. Our goal is to raise funds, awareness, and spirits to improve prevention, diagnosis, and treatment of the gynecologic cancers that affect 80,000 new women each year.

There is a dedicated, talented, and driven group of health care professionals and researchers at the UNC Lineberger Comprehensive Cancer Center who are fighting these diseases on the front lines. By partnering with this accomplished research team led by Dr. Vickie Bae-Jump, MD, PhD, we are confident we can combat these diseases.

With your support, we have raised over $73,000 to date! Thank you! All donations to Below the Belt support the Burns-Waugh Research Fellowship under the leadership of Dr. Vickie Bae-Jump, Division of Gynecologic-Oncology. The Burns-Waugh Research Fellowship was created in honor of Mary Jane Burns and Stella Waugh.

"With the support of Below the Belt, we have opened two new clinical trials of targeted therapies for endometrial cancer and its precursors. We have been able to explore how diet effects endometrial and ovarian cancer development and its treatment success. I am very grateful for the support of Below the Belt and I hope that we can do even more in 2017! Above all, I am excited that Below the Belt is continuing to increase awareness of gynecologic cancer and honor the women who bravely face this disease every day."
